Petroleum Wives Club of the Hague

Day  Trip to Naarden

Naarden is a beautiful town surrounded by 17th century fortifications, shaped as a 12 point star with 6 bastions, a double ring of walls and canals. It is like a huge open air museum. The Fortress Museum (Vesting Museum) and the Comenius Museum are well worth visiting as is the Stadhuis dating from 1601.

The 17th Century Het Arsenal, has been converted into a fabulous design center by furniture designer Jan Des Bouvrie. This complex has a gallery of modern art, an elegant garden, and some beautiful boutiques with clothing for men and women. Also an area of lighting designs, another for modern kitchens, a chic coffee house and restaurant and of course there are all the designs from Jan Des Bouvrie himself.

Here is also housed Bran van Hell jewellers .You will love the stones and elegant designs. A 20 min talk about the jewellery has been organised with coffee and petit fours and a gift for all those ladies (can I wish it is a pearl!) who attends. Afterwards we will enjoy a canal tour so you don't have to walk all day! Then the rest of the time is up to you. The town has some wonderful architecture, great brassieres and cafes for lunch and several streets to browse for Antiques, gifts and clothing.
